In memory of the scientist :: AFANASYEV Yakov Nikitovich

Yakov Nikitovich Afanasyev (21.10.1877, Balashov, Saratov region, Russia – 20.12.1937), soil scientist. Academician of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus (1928), Doctor of Geologo-Mineralogical Sciences (1934), Professor (1921).

— Graduated from Petersburg University (1901).
— In 1913 - member of the Soil Committee of the Moscow Society of Agriculture.
— Since 1921 - Professor, Head of the Department at the Goretsky Agricultural Institute (since 1925 - BSAA).
— In 1931-1937 - Director of the Institute of Agrosovology of the AS of the BSSR.
— Arrested in 1937. Sentenced to capital punishment. Rehabilitated in 1957.

Conducted soil research, compiled the first soil map of the BSSR. Author of works on increasing yields in various soil regions of Belarus, combating excessive moisture in soils.

Published more than 30 scientific papers, including 4 monographs.
