Afanasy Andreevich Akhrem (01.02.1913, v. Urechye, Vileika district, Minsk region – 05.03.2010), bioorganic chemist. Academician of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus (1970), Doctor of Chemical Sciences (1960), Professor (1970). Honored Scientist of the BSSR (1983). Member of the Great Patriotic War.
The main work on organic and bioorganic chemistry, the stereochemistry of natural compounds, mainly steroids, proteins, peptides, nucleotides. He discovered the heteroannelation reaction, which is important in the complete synthesis of alkaloids, the reaction of acetylsalicylic acid chloride with sugars, nucleosides and nucleotides, the stereospecific anionotropic rearrangement of acetates of glycidic steroid oxides, which was called the Ahremem rearrangement. Discovered the phenomenon of mobility of double bonds in cyclic dienes. Established a new type of electronic isomerism - "mesomeric tautomerism".
Author of more than 800 scientific papers, incl. 13 monographs and 100 inventions.
State Prize of the BSSR in 1988 for the creation of scientific foundations, the development of technology, the organization of pilot production and the implementation of radio diagnostic kits.
