In memory of the scientist :: GORETSKY Gavriil Ivanovich

Gavriil Ivanovich Goretsky (10.04.1900, v. Malaya Bogatkovka, Mstislav district, Mogilev region - 20.11.1988), economist-geographer, geologist. Academician of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus (1928), Doctor of Geologo-Mineralogical Sciences (1946). Honored Scientist of the BSSR (1972).

— Graduated from Petrovsk (Timiryazev) Academy of Agriculture (1924).
— In 1924-1925 - Lecturer at the Communist University of National Minorities of the West (Moscow), in 1925-1927 - Associate Professor of the Belarusian Agricultural Academy (Gorki), in 1925-1928 - full member of Inbelkult, since 1927 - member of the presidium of Inbelkult.
— In 1927-1930 - Director of the Belarusian Research Institute of Agriculture and Forestry named after Lenin (Minsk), in 1929-1930 - Head of the Department for the Study of the Standard of the National Economy of the Belarusian Academy of Sciences.
— In 1930 he was arrested, sentenced to 10 years in prison, deprived of the title of academician. He was released early in 1934. He was arrested in 1937 and 1938. Fully rehabilitated in 1958, reinstated as academician in 1965.
— In 1931-1941 - worked in the geological expeditions of Belmorstroi and Tulomstroy of the NKVD, in 1941-1942 - Chief Geologist of the Glavoboronstroi in defense work near Moscow and Leningrad, in 1943-1968 - Deputy Chief Geologist, Chief Geologist at Hydroproject organizations.
— In 1968-1985 - Head of the Department of the Institute of Geochemistry and Geophysics of the Academy of Sciences of the BSSR.
— In 1969-1973 - Chief Consultant of the Hydroproject.
— Since 1985 - Leading Research Associate at the Institute of Geochemistry and Geophysics of the Academy of Sciences of the BSSR.
— Candidate member of the CEC of the BSSR in 1927-1928, member of the CEC of the BSSR in 1929-1930.

Scientific studies are devoted to economic geography, anthropogenic geology and engineering geology. Conducted surveys and studies for the construction of many canals and waterworks. He developed the foundations of paleopotamology - the science of rivers of the past. Studied the anthropogenic geology of the European part of the USSR. Author of works on folklore, ethno-statistics, demography, agriculture and forestry, archeology.

Published over 160 scientific papers, incl. 8 monographs.

State Prize of the USSR in 1971 for a series of monographs on prarakah. State Prize of the BSSR in 1986 for the development and implementation of the scientific foundations of anthropogenic geology and geomorphology in the practice of exploration in Belarus.

Awarded with the Order of the October Revolution (1979), the Red Banner of Labor (1952, 1971), medals.
