Gavriil Ivanovich Goretsky (10.04.1900, v. Malaya Bogatkovka, Mstislav district, Mogilev region - 20.11.1988), economist-geographer, geologist. Academician of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus (1928), Doctor of Geologo-Mineralogical Sciences (1946). Honored Scientist of the BSSR (1972).
Scientific studies are devoted to economic geography, anthropogenic geology and engineering geology. Conducted surveys and studies for the construction of many canals and waterworks. He developed the foundations of paleopotamology - the science of rivers of the past. Studied the anthropogenic geology of the European part of the USSR. Author of works on folklore, ethno-statistics, demography, agriculture and forestry, archeology.
Published over 160 scientific papers, incl. 8 monographs.
State Prize of the USSR in 1971 for a series of monographs on prarakah. State Prize of the BSSR in 1986 for the development and implementation of the scientific foundations of anthropogenic geology and geomorphology in the practice of exploration in Belarus.
Awarded with the Order of the October Revolution (1979), the Red Banner of Labor (1952, 1971), medals.
