Georgy Pavlovich Gurinovich (26.04.1933, Borisov, Minsk region – 26.02.1994), physicist. Academician of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus (1994; corresponding member since 1970), Doctor of Physico-Mathematical Sciences (1969), Professor (1970).
Research in the field of spectroscopy and luminescence. The most important scientific achievements are connected with the research of elementary photoprocesses in polyatomic molecules, the polarization of luminescence, the efficiency of light energy conversion by matter, the interpretation of electronic-vibrational spectra, the application of the results in chemistry, biology, and medicine. I found the dependence of the degree of polarization of the emission of solutions of organic compounds on the wavelength of the exciting radiation and on the luminescence spectrum. Developed spectroscopic methods and determined the quantum yields of all stages of the main photoreaction of chlorophyll-like compounds.
Author of over 280 scientific papers, incl. monographs, 25 inventions.
State Prize of the BSSR in 1980 for the series of works "Photonics of biologically important pigments and their analogues".
Awarded with a medal.
