IGNATENKO Illarion Mefodyevich

Illarion Mefodyevich Ignatenko (28.12.1919, v. Domamerki, Loev district, Gomel region – 03.02.2002), historian. Academician of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus (1974; corresponding member since 1969), Doctor of Historical Sciences (1965), Professor (1966). Member of the Great Patriotic War.

The main works are devoted to the history of the February and Great October Socialist Revolutions. He showed the development and course of revolutions in Belarus and on the Western Front, the characteristic features of the civil war and foreign intervention in Belarus, the results of the revolutionary transformations, the deployment of the national liberation movement and the national-state construction. Co-author and scientific editor of "Essays on the history of the Communist Party of Belarus" (part 2, 1967), "The History of the Belarusian SSR" in 5 volumes (1972-1975), "The national struggle in Belarus against the Nazi invaders during the Great Patriotic War" in 3 volumes (1983-1985) and others.

Author of about 200 scientific papers, incl. 6 monographs.

Awarded the Order of the Patriotic War of the II degree (1985), medals.
