Victor Antonovich Kovalenko (21.07.1929, v. Sakovschina, Volozhin district, Minsk region - 17.08.2001), literary critic, prose writer. Academician of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus (1994; corresponding member since 1984). Doctor of Philological Sciences (1978). Honored Scientist of the BSSR (1981).
It was published since 1952. Research in the field of Belarusian literary criticism and criticism. His works devoted to the works of Z. Byadulya, J. Kolas, I. Shamyakin, the literary process of the 19th century - the beginning of the 20th century. They are distinguished by conceptualism, novelty of problem statement, relevance, versatility of scientific solutions, depth and historicism of research. He explored the process of acceleration in the development of Belarusian literature, the role of national-original sources and influences of neighboring literatures in it. As a critic, he has inherent attention to the problems of the spirituality of literature, its truthfulness, social activity, and humanism. The author of the novel "Padvyshanaye neba" (1975).
Author of more than 200 scientific papers, collections of literary-critical articles, including 11 monographs.
State Prize of the BSSR named after Yakub Kolas in 1980 for participating in the creation of the 2-volume "History of Belarusian Pre-October Literature" and "History of Belarusian Soviet Literature" (1977).
