Nikolai Artemyevich Mayer (09.01.1932, Nizhny Novgorod, Russia – 24.08.2012), chemist. Corresponding Member of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus (1991). Doctor of Chemical Sciences (1976), Professor (1989).
Scientific research in the field of organic chemistry and chemistry of organometallic compounds. He discovered (jointly with G.A. Razuvayev, Y.A. Oldekop) the reaction of initiated decarboxylation of mercury diacylates and proved the chain homolytic nature of this reaction. He developed preparative methods for the preparation of various organo-mercury compounds, chemical and electrochemical methods for the preparation of a number of metallocene, bis-dicarbolyl and metalcarborane derivatives of iron, cobalt and nickel. He discovered the skeletal rearrangement of the ortho-carborane nucleus into a metal carborane, as well as the isomerization of ortho-nickelcarboranes into meta-isomers.
Author of more than 170 scientific papers, incl. 2 monographs, 10 inventions.
