Ivan Egorovich Marchenko (02.06.1923, v. Lyudkov, Slavgorod district, Mogilev region – 19.04.1997), historian. Corresponding Member of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus (1980), Doctor of Historical Sciences (1969), Professor (1970). Member of the Great Patriotic War.
Major works on the history of the working class, collective farm peasantry and cultural construction. He studied the problems of the restoration and development of industry and agriculture, the production and socio-political activities of workers, their cultural and technical growth. He studied the relations of Belarus with other republics of the USSR, their cooperation and mutual assistance. One of the authors of the "History of the BSSR" in 5 volumes (1973-1975), "History of Minsk" (1967), "History of the BSSR" (1977), books "Polotsk. Historical Essay" (1987), "Narysy gistoryi Belarusi" (part 2, 1995) and other collective works.
Author of more than 150 scientific papers, incl. 10 monographs.
Awarded with the Order of the Red Star (1942, 1945), the Labor Red Banner (1976), World War of the I degree (1985), the medal "For Courage" (1944), other medals.
