Stepan Gordeevich Skoropanov (07.11.1910, v. Botvinovo, Chechersk district, Gomel region – 11.06.1999), a scientist in the field of agriculture and land reclamation. Academician of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus (1961), Academician of the Academy of Agricultural Sciences of the BSSR (1959–1961), Academician of the Academy of Agricultural Sciences (1972), Russian Academy of Agricultural Sciences (1991), Academy of Agrarian Sciences of the Republic of Belarus (1992), foreign member of the Academy of Agricultural Sciences of the GDR (1974–1989), Doctor of Agricultural Sciences (1961), Professor (1962). Professor Emeritus BSA (1980). Honored Scientist of the BSSR (1968). Member of the Great Patriotic War.
Works on the problems of general agriculture, land reclamation and meadow farming. He explored the technological foundations and practical techniques for the development and use of peat soils, put forward the concept of land reclamation and environmental protection, developed the theory and practice of expanded reproduction of soil fertility, investigated the socio-ecological consequences of the intensification of farming.
Author of more than 600 scientific and popular scientific works, including 15 monographs.
Awarded with the Order of Lenin (1966, 1971), the October Revolution (1973), the Red Banner (1942), the Red Star (1943), World War of the I degree (1944, 1985), "Badge of Honor" (1958), Friendship of Peoples (1980) , medal of Francisk Skaryna, medals.
