Arnold Fedorovich Smeyanovich (b. 11.08.1938, Bryansk, Russia - 01.01.2021), a scientist in the field of neurosurgery. Academician of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus (2009; corresponding member since 2004), Doctor of Medical Sciences (1981), Professor (1993). Honored Scientist of the Republic of Belarus (1998).
The main directions of scientific activity are surgery of vascular pathology of the brain, neurooncology, surgery of compression forms of spinal osteochondrosis, reconstructive surgery of injuries of the brachial plexus. He developed and introduced a microsurgical technology for the total removal of the pre-vesicle nerve by neurinomas and a number of new methods for the treatment of neurological disorders associated with this disease. The author of the method of complex surgical restoration of the function of the upper limb with injuries of the brachial plexus, which has no analogues in world practice and includes a number of new reconstructive surgical interventions. Develops the problems of treatment of glial brain tumors, which allowed almost double the life expectancy of this category of patients. Conducts a comprehensive study on the problem of diagnosis and surgical treatment of vascular malformations of the vertebrobasilar system (arterial aneurysms, arteriovenous malformations). Developed and introduced into practice a number of original techniques that are of priority importance in the treatment of neuro-oncological patients.
Author of more than 400 scientific papers, incl. 5 monographs, 25 inventions and patents.
State Prize of the Republic of Belarus in 1994 for the series of works "Pathogenesis, clinic and diagnosis of neurological manifestations of spinal osteochondrosis".
Honorary Citizen of the Pukhovichi District (2011).
