Avenir Afanasyevich Terentyev (05.12.1938, Velikiye Luki, Russia – 09.12.2003), a scientist in the field of technical sciences. Corresponding Member of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus (1996). Doctor of Engineering Sciences (1990), Professor (1991).

Scientific research on the physico-chemical mechanics of natural dispersed systems and rocks. He developed theoretical foundations and methods of directional structure formation in peat and sapropel, peat soils, brown coal, peat-based compositions for the production of various materials and fuels. Established the general patterns of structure formation of concentrated systems based on rocks under mechanical and physico-chemical effects. Revealed the mechanism of a sharp decrease in moisture conductivity and mobility of cations in peat systems with the introduction of anionic surface-active substances (surfactants) and their enhancement in the case of cationic surfactants, due to changes in the electrokinetic and structural-rheological properties of the boundary layers. He showed the applicability of the main colloidal-chemical principle of controlling the physicomechanical properties of dispersed systems using surfactants to peat compositions. He substantiated the possibility of increasing the adhesive bonds in the peat-coal composition due to the incorporation of humic substances of peat into the structure of the surface layers of coal during its mechanical activation.
