Boris Ivanovich Yakushev (b. in Minsk, 02.02.1932 – 11.11.2016), a scientist in the field of ecology and radioecology of plants. Corresponding Member of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus (1994). Doctor of Biological Sciences (1980), Professor (2002). Honored Scientist of Belarus (2002).
Scientific work on the reaction of plant organisms to biotic and abiotic environmental factors, the relationship of woody and herbaceous vegetation in phytocenoses, the laws of accumulation of radionuclides in plant tissues. Completed studies on the radioecological situation in plant communities that have experienced the effects of emissions from the Chernobyl accident. At the same time, the basic patterns of accumulation of radionuclides by vegetation depending on the environmental conditions were established. Developed proposals for the rational use of natural plant resources, taking into account the varying degrees of radioactive contamination of the territory. The effect of natural radionuclides (238U, 14С, 40К) on the vital activity of plants of various life forms in model experiments and biogeocenoses was experimentally established and investigated.
Author of more than 230 scientific papers, incl. 8 monographs, 4 inventions.
